Batman likes the shadows, but in batman: arkham origins he can’t get out of the shadow of his previous games. Batman: Arkham Origins is a 2013 action-adventure video game developed by Warner Bros. Games Montréal and released by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for Microsoft Windows and the PlayStation 3, Wii U and Xbox 360 video game consoles. It was released worldwide on October 25, 2013. The game, played from a third-person perspective, focuses on Batman’s combat and stealth abilities, detective skills, and gadgets for combat and exploration. Aside from the main story, Batman can help the police deal with crimes, and confront other supervillains terrorizing the city. Arkham Origins introduces the ability for Batman to recreate crimes, allowing him to investigate the scene and identify the culprit. The game is the first in the series with multiplayer capability. Warner Bros. Games Montréal took over development duties for Arkham Origins from series creators Rocksteady Studios.
A thing that I love in the rocksteady arkham games is all the little Easter eggs in the game such as finding killer croc in arkham city or hearing about crazy quilt from the thugs. But in this game there are so few easter eggs.
What is baffling about this game is the name Batman: arkham origins. This isn’t a batman origin game nor is about arkham. The only logical way for the name to be creative would be Batman arkham city oh wait.
However the narrative is quite well written covering themes that really strike an emotional beat especially with the bruce and Alfred scenes. Troy Baker and Roger Craig Smith had a massive undertaking with this game, trying to matchup to kevin conroy and mark hamil and they both do a brilliant job. However in my opinion they never get out of the shadow that they aren’t the voices we wanted. This game seems rushed, the game has constant framerate issues on the ps3 and the game sometimes crashes. Especially with the bridge crossing bits.
Arkham Origins is an open world game incorporating stealth game tactics. Batman can use his cape to glide around Gotham City and the grapnel gun’s retracting rope to attach to ledges and extend his flight. Some gadgets from previous Arkham games are present at the start of Arkham Origins, while others become available during play. Returning gadgets include the Cryptographic Sequencer, used to hack security consoles; the Batclaw, used for hooking onto surfaces; the Batarang, a throwing weapon; the Remote Batarang, which is remote controlled; Explosive Gel, used to destroy surfaces and knock down enemies; Smoke Pellets, used for stealth.
Batman: Arkham Origins isn’t as good as Arkham Asylum or Arkham city because it feels like a rushed product. With little easter eggs and a glitches galore, but this game has pretty sweet combat and stealth but that has been inferited from other games. Batman: Arkham Origins gets 3 stars out of five.
