It has been 4 years since the first Plants vs Zombies and you’ll be surprised that the sequel barely changes anything. There are less of the bowling sections which I felt were the best parts of the previous game. The new plants are mostly useless except for the Boxing Bok Choy. The only plant I wish was in the game for free is the cherry bomb but you can’t get every plant for free. The game isn’t without innovation for one thing some enemies drop plant food that can temporarily make your plants more productive most of the time making things more dead. The power up mechanic feels unnecessary and undermines the rest of the game’s mechanics.
The visuals are nice with great sprite animation and a beautiful colour palette that gives the game’s environments and characters life.
Plants vs Zombies 2: It’s About Time is free to play and I don’t like this I personally hate free to play games. I found this with Vector it just makes the whole game a grind and works against the way I want to play my games. Because of this I didn’t make it to the wild west stage.
The voice acting is average and the music is bland.
The story is a weak framing device to take you to a couple of locations and the dialogue is forgettable.
The touch screen oriented map screen with branching paths is badly designed.
Plants vs Zombies 2: It’s About Time is a sequel that takes one step forward and two steps back. 4 years this game has been in development.
